Kids can need braces different reasons, including:
Your child's dentist will notice these problems during a regular visit and advise you to consider braces. The dentist may also ask whether your child has problems chewing or swallowing, or clicking or popping of the jaw.
X-rays of the mouth and teeth will show how the teeth are positioned and whether any permanent teeth still need to come in. A mold (or impression) of your child's teeth will be made to create a replica of your child's teeth - which will help the dentist decide which treatment options are best.
Most kids need braces with brackets, wires, and rubber bands. The brackets attach to the teeth and are connected by a wire and rubber bands. The wire is tightened bit by bit over time to slowly help line the teeth up properly. The rubber bands come in fun colors that kids can pick. Some braces are metal, some are clear, and some are white ceramic. Some even go behind the teeth (lingual braces).
Clear removable braces that move teeth with plastic aligners (rather than wires and rubber bands) are also available, but these are only right for some people.
While wearing braces, your child will visit the dentist every few weeks for monitoring and adjustments.
We offer a full range of orthodontics for children including removable, functional and fixed braces. These include conventional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, lingual braces, and aligners.
Second opinion - We are happy to see your child for a second opinion or if you are on a long waiting list at another practice. No dental referral is required, just give us a call for your free consultation.
Nervous patients - We treat nervous patients and those requiring more TLC.
Financing - Simple fixed metal braces have an all-inclusive fee of £2600 for under 18's (includes retainers). Please see our fees for all treatments.
Fees for any braces treatment can either be paid upfront to receive a 5% discount - or alternatively, spread over 12 months, interest fee.
Timeframe depends on the severity of the child’s dental problems. The average time is about 2 years. When treatment has ended, the child might wear a specially molded retainer to keep the teeth straight.
We are very experienced in fitting children with braces, and understand how to give children the TLC many need in adjusting to this treatment. We’re proud the children we’ve treated have had a successful resolution of their dental problems – and we love seeing their beautiful smiles when they return for checkups.
